Washington, D.C.–  According to press reports, President-elect Trump has chosen Representative Catherine McMorris Rodgers to head the Department of Interior.  Environment America’s Executive Director Margie Alt, issued the following statement in response:

“We are profoundly disappointed in the choice of Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers as the Department of Interior nominee. The Secretary of the Interior is the steward of America’s treasured lands and coastlines.  Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers has consistently voted in favor of more drilling, clear-cutting and pollution and against protecting our most treasured places from the rugged Pacific coasts to the pristine Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and from the Chesapeake Bay to the majestic forests of the West.  No matter how they voted, Americans still love the same mountains, rivers, parks, beaches and other special places that our ancestors had the wisdom and foresight to protect and preserve.  We deserve an Interior secretary who cherishes these places, not one who has consistently voted to destroy them.”
