What's New
On May 28 Representative Ed Markey unveiled new legislation
to address global warming. The “Investing in Climate Action and Protection Act”
(iCAP Act) is a detailed bill that would reduce global warming emissions in
line with the latest science while protecting American consumers and building a
clean energy economy. The iCAP Act’s
cap-auction-and-trade program would reduce global warming emissions to 2005
levels by 2012, to 20 percent below 2005 levels by 2020, and to 85 percent
below 2005 levels by 2050.
Brief Summary
We
know it’s possible to cut global warming pollution fast enough to leave future
generations a proud legacy. Many states have already taken the first steps, in
part as a result of our advocacy at the state level.
At the
federal level, we’re working to build momentum for policies that reduce global
warming pollution by at least 15 to 20 percent by 2020 and at least 80 percent
by 2050—the science-based reductions needed to protect future generations—while
protecting consumers and spurring the transition to a clean energy
future.
To protect our environment, economy, and future generations, we
can’t settle for less.
