Attacks on public health defeated—for now.

The coal lobby and their allies are trying to block the EPA from protecting public health, but we’ve held the line against some of their worst attacks: In March 2011, the U.S. Senate rejected a bill that would have blocked standards for soot, mercury and carbon pollution. In April, the Senate defeated four more bills that would have blocked the EPA from cutting air pollution.

A brighter future for wind and solar.

By tapping the energy of the sun hitting the rooftops of America and the power of the wind blowing off our coasts and across the country, we can meet the energy needs of every household in the nation. New policies we helped win will bring us closer to realizing that potential by making it easier to build wind farms on and offshore, and to put solar panels on our roofs.

Record-breaking support for clean air

Together with our allies, we’ve delivered more than 800,000 comments to the EPA in support of strong clean air standards — no other single EPA rule has ever received so much support. Environment Massachusetts Advocate Ben Wright (right), delivered more than 600,000 of those comments to the EPA's regional office in Boston.

Glacier National Park protected from drilling

More than 200,000 acres surrounding Glacier National Park are now protected from drilling, after we mobilized thousands of people in Montana and across the country to urge Montana’s senators and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to ban nearby drilling. BP, Halliburton and the other companies that had leased sites saw the writing on the wall and voluntarily relinquished more than 80% of their drilling leases.

Wind and solar increase across nation

From California to Ohio to New Jersey, workers are erecting wind turbines and installing solar equipment that will supply clean electricity to millions of homes, schools and offices. Thanks to the work of our staff and members, we helped renew a critical renewable energy tax credit in 2010 that will keep our clean energy economy growing.
