After thousands of members of Environment America and our sister organizations urged the EPA to act, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson announced a plan to restore Clean Water Act protections to all of America's rivers, lakes, streams and wetlands. We’ve since delivered more than 100,000 public comments in support of clean water protections.

Restoring the Chesapeake Bay

Pollution from factory farms and rampant development creates a dead zone in the Chesapeake Bay every summer where wildlife cannot survive—but a new EPA cleanup plan will stem the tide and set tough limits on big polluters. Our staff in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland spoke to tens of thousands of people in the Chesapeake Bay area to build support for the plan, and are pushing state leaders to join the EPA in enforcing strong pollution limits.

No new drilling off our coasts

From the Outer Banks to Key West, our shores will remain safe from the kind of oil-rig disaster that fouled the Gulf of Mexico, thanks to the Obama administration’s decision declaring the Atlantic, Pacific and Florida coasts off-limits to new drilling. We organized grassroots support for the ban before, during and after the Gulf oil disaster.
