Give clean cars a green light
Thirteen states could see a higher percentage of cleaner, greener cars in showrooms in the next few years. But first, we have to get past the Bush administration, which refused last December to green-light the Clean Cars program. Environment America joined a lawsuit designed to force the Bush EPA to approve the program. With our support, and the support of others in the environmental community, several states filed a lawsuit after the EPA denied a Clean Air Act waiver for California and 12 other states—a decision made over the objections of the EPA’s own legal and scientific staff. Congress is also investigating. Sen. Barbara Boxer (Calif.) and Rep. Peter Welch (Vt.) are pushing bills we back that would overturn the EPA’s wrongheaded decision.
“The Bush EPA might be in global warming denial, but the American people are not. We’re appealing this case to the courts and, if need be, we’ll appeal it to the next president,” said Environment California’s Jason Barbose.

Sen. Barbara Boxer (Calif.) tries to make sense of the EPA’s heavily redacted documents. The Senate is investigating the EPA’s decision to block clean cars programs.
