Cleaner Gasoline will lead to Cleaner Air, Lives Saved

Environment America

Washington, D.C. – Today the Obama administration released their “Tier 3” standard, which will reduce the sulfur content of gasoline from 30 parts per million to 10 parts per million. Environment America’s Get Off Oil Program Director Daniel Gatti issued this statement in response:

“This standard is good news for all Americans who want to breathe clean air.

“Over 150 million Americans live in areas where air quality poses a significant risk to their health, and our cars and trucks are among the leading sources of harmful air pollution. These revised rules will help prevent tens of thousands of asthma attacks each year, save lives, and reduce health care costs.

“Oil companies and their allies have been doing everything they can to derail these standards.  We applaud the Obama administration for standing up to these oil companies and protecting our air.”
