Win for Washington’s Wild Sky

Statement of Environment America Preservation Advocate Christy Goldfuss

Today, the U.S. Senate passed S. 2739, bringing Washington State one step closer to its first new wilderness designation in two decades. The following is the statement of Environment America’s Preservation Advocate, Christy Goldfuss.

After much delay, the Senate has found its way to passing the Wild Sky Wilderness Act. The people of Washington have long been waiting for this day as political theatre has repeatedly stood in the way.

The black bears and bald eagles that draw tourists to the region can now be protected to the greatest extent of the law. The measure makes both economic and ecological sense, and it’s simply what the people of Washington want.

We applaud Senators Murray and Cantwell for their steadfast leadership in protecting the places the people of Washington love, and we urge the President to hear their call by signing the bill into law.
