Candidates Urged To Commit America To A Clean Energy Future

New Report Shows Why the 44th President Must Put America on the Clean Energy Path

Environment Iowa gathered today in Des Moines, urging all of the presidential candidates to pledge to turn things around and put America on the clean energy path. Documenting the need, viability and support for an aggressive clean energy agenda, Environment America released a new report today entitled, Clean Energy for America: Why the 44th President Must Put America on the Clean Energy Path.

“American voters have the right to know where the candidates stand on one of the most critical problems facing the country: our addiction to dirty energy,” said Ben Praster, Environment Iowa Advocate. “All of the candidates for president should pledge to make big, bold clean energy initiatives a centerpiece of their environmental and economic policies.”

The new report documents the enormous potential for clean energy solutions such as developing homegrown energy resources, such as solar, wind, and biomass power, and energy efficiency. The report provides a “top ten” list of the most important policies that the next president should champion to bring greater energy independence and more jobs to the United States, solve global warming, and put America back in the lead in technological innovation.

Environment Iowa is joined by a nation-wide presidential primaries, clean energy campaign launch, including releases in New Hampshire and Nevada.

“The next president must prioritize harnessing America’s abundant clean energy resources and vast reserves of energy efficiency,” said Melisa Stodieck, field organizer for Environment Iowa. “It would be highly irresponsible for the next president to pass up the environmental benefits and economic opportunities our nation will see by taking action put America on a clean energy path.”

Environment America is calling on all of the presidential candidates to make a pledge for clean energy, promising to, if elected, meet all future energy needs with clean, renewable energy.

The Environment Iowa is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting Iowa's air, water and open space. Environment America is the national office for Environment Iowa and the more than two dozen affiliated state-based environmental groups. The full report is available at http://www.environmentiowa.org.
