Environment America announces its support for H.R. 1187, a bill to expand the Gulf of Farallones and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuaries northward to areas off the coast of Sonoma and Mendocino Counties in California.
Environment America Oceans Advocate Michael Gravitz said: "We applaud the California fishermen's organizations that are supporting this step forward in marine conservation. It shows that environmental, political, and commercial interests can work together to protect marine ecosystems for the benefit of future generations. Protecting this immensely productive ecosystem by including its source of nutrients is like protecting the headwaters of an important river from pollution and diversions."
