Stop Global Warming

Join Environment America to stop global warming

Stopping global warming is the greatest challenge of our time. Experts agree that if we don’t take action now, we could face a tipping point, when the worst effects become inevitable — from rising sea levels and extreme weather, to species disappearance, to disruptions in global agriculture.

The challenge before us presents huge opportunities for our environment. The changes we need to make to combat climate change will also mean cleaner air, a vigorous, green economy, and wilderness safe from the pressures of oil and coal extraction.

Environment America — with our unique grassroots capacity and our 30-year track record of victories for the environment — stands at the forefront of the American movement to stop global warming.

  • Setting precedents at the state level: Environment America’s work has already resulted in groundbreaking state-wide caps on global warming pollution in California and New Jersey, Clean Car Programs to reduce CO2 pollution in 12 states, and new limits on global warming emissions from power plants in the Northeast. By working on the local and state levels, our advocates and fellows are able to create a groundswell of action, paving the way for nationwide legislation and reducing pollution levels right now.
  • A strong federal presence: Researchers, lobbyists and advocates in Washington, D.C., are working to win a federal law to reduce global warming pollution at least 15 percent by 2020 and 80 percent by 2050.
  • A powerful grassroots base: When we meet with lawmakers, we bring with us the support of thousands Environment America members and constituents across the country.

What we’re missing is you.

We have a long way to go, particularly in convincing leaders at the federal level to stand up to politically-connected polluters, and take strong action to reduce global warming pollution. That’s where you come in.

We’re hiring entry-level and experienced candidates to help us win. We need more organizers to build citizen power. More research on emerging solutions. More global warming coverage in the media. More advocates fighting for strong action in capitols across the country.
