Outreach Intern

Environment America is looking for interns to work in our downtown Boston office.  In conjunction with the Public Interest Network, we are launching a Citizen Activist Training Center.

Background

Environment America and the Public Interest Network take seriously the mission of recruiting and training people for civic action.  We essentially serves as an “activist pipeline,” producing a large percentage of the professionals who staff and lead public interest organizations, causes, and candidate campaigns, and who date their first involvement to their work as a fulltime staffer, a canvasser, or a student within The Public Interest Network.   Moving this training expertise outward into neighborhoods and communities is a natural expansion of The Public Interest Network’s mission to educate public interest leaders.  The Training Center’s Activist Training Workshops will involve many individuals in civic engagement, furthering issues-based reform.

Internship Description

Outreach Interns will help coordinate the following projects:
•    Event Planning: The interns will coordinate the planning of Activist Workshops around the county.  This includes duties such as coalition outreach, citizen activist outreach, and coordinating the location logistics.
•    Online Outreach: The interns will coordinate our online recruitment campaign to raise the visibility of Environment America's Activist Workshops. This will include planning and implementing targeted outreach to websites, job boards, blogs, and social-networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
•     Campus Outreach: Interns will contact career centers across the country to coordinate recruitment, visibility events and on-campus interviews. Interns will also recruit top student leaders for the Green Corps program with campus outreach.

Hours

The start and end dates are flexible. Interns typically work between 10-25 hours/week, the level of commitment can be tailored to your schedule.

Qualifications

We are looking for people who are serious about saving the planet, have a desire to strengthen and grow the environmental and progressive movement, and have demonstrated leadership experience.

Benefits

The internships are unpaid, but interns are given the opportunity to audit portions of our Activist Workshops as well as our classroom trainings in August, which features training from top environmental leaders in organizing, advocacy, and leadership skills.
