Help lead the environmental movement

The Environment America federation is seeking experienced Environmental Advocates to develop and manage campaigns for common-sense environmental and public health protections.

Apply your passion and expertise to making real progress on issues such as global warming, sustainable energy policy, clean air and water, and protecting our wild places.

In addition to Environmental Advocates, Environment America is seeking experienced organization builders to coordinate program development, advocacy, field organizing, and communications for our federation of state-based environmental groups. Environmental Advocate Job Description 

On a day-to-day basis, an Environmental Advocate will do the following:

Policy development: Develop our approach to environmental problems within a broader political context, and develop a comprehensive platform for solving them. Write comprehensive reports, fact sheets and white papers for release to decision-makers, the media and the public.

Advocacy: Bring problems/solutions to the attention of decision-makers—including state legislators, people in the Executive branch, environmental agency staff and local officials.

Campaign Strategy: Create a plan to win on our environmental campaigns; strategize how to gain political support for our agenda through coalition-building, grassroots organizing, media publicity, endorsements and message development.

Media Outreach: Serve as the public spokesperson for our environmental campaigns through media events, press releases, editorial board meetings and other PR tactics.

Organization Building: Write grant proposals, impress foundations with an environmental mission to support our work, and meet with large donors, all to bring more resources to efforts we're waging to protect our environment. Recruit new staff and volunteers to increase our impact on all our issues.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to environmental issues, and a track-record of leadership and academic excellence. We're looking for goal-driven and results-oriented individuals who have excellent verbal, writing and analytical skills, the ability to debate and speak persuasively in a charged atmosphere, and enthusiasm for the work. Candidates should have at least 2 to 8 years of relevant professional experience, post-college. Experience in political, legal, journalistic, activist or nonprofit settings preferred.

Salary for this position is commensurate with the relevant professional experience and/or advanced degrees that a candidate posesses.
