Send a thank you note to Sens. Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray of Washington for their leadership on the Wild Sky Wilderness bill.

What's new

Washington wilderness area established

In 2008, Washington State gained its first new wilderness area in more than 20 years. The Wild Sky Wilderness Act, signed in the spring of 2008, protects more than 100,000 acres of Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest

Brief Summary
Easily seen from the city of Seattle, the 106,000 acres included in the Wild Sky Wilderness proposal attract people to the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. The area is known for its fishing, rock climbing and outstanding miles of hiking trails. These lands provide vital habitat for fish and wildlife in the region. The permanent protection of the forests, rivers and mountains in the Wild Sky Wilderness proposal will guarantee the stunning beauty and ecological value of this region will continue to benefit both Washingtonians and Americans alike.
