No more fishy excuses or loopholes

Letter	Dear Dr. James Balsiger (National Marine Fisheries Service): Every day we hear about more threats to our oceans and the animals that live there. Time is short for the fish, whales, dolphins and turtles that are threatened by overfishing, pollution and habitat loss. As head of the agency that can stop industry from pushing our fisheries into collapse, I urge you to enact strong regulations that prevent overfishing and hold industry and fishery managers accountable when overfishing happens. I also urge you to require unbiased environmental reviews of fishery management decisions so that the public has complete information and a chance to voice its opinion. Sincerely,

We need to save whales, dolphins, sea turtles and fish from declining any further. One important way to save these magnificent animals is to end destructive overfishing. We need you to call on the Bush administration to protect our oceans and stop overfishing when they write new national fishing rules. Here’s a message you can send to the Director of the National Marine Fisheries Service who will be making the decision about what the new rules look like. Help us stop any fishy loopholes in the new rules.

Stopping Oil Drilling Off Our Coasts

Supporting the 26 year-old moratorium on new offshore drilling, we helped block an amendment that would have allowed drilling for natural gas as close as 50 miles off the coast of Virginia, off the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay and off Assateague Island National Seashore and wildlife areas. Read more.
