Subject It's Time to Repower America With Clean Renewable Energy
Letter * Dear Senator: We can repower America with clean energy, protect our environment, and rebuild our economy in the process -- putting millions of Americans to work building wind turbines, installing solar panels, weatherizing homes, and building plug-in hybrid cars that get 100 miles to the gallon. That’s why I urge you to work to pass the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act. Specifically, please support: • Requiring utilities to generate at least 25 percent of the nation’s energy from clean, renewable sources, such as wind and solar power, by 2025. • Cutting energy use in new buildings in half and requiring utilities to use 15 percent less energy by 2020. • Reducing global warming pollution to the levels science says are necessary to avoid the worst effects of global warming: by at least 35% by 2020 and by at least 80% by 2050 • Requiring aging coal-fired power plants to meet up-to-date technology standards, with no special loopholes or carve-outs.
