Repowering America with clean energy.
When President Obama extended tough new auto
emissions standards, he was building on a foundation laid by our
nationwide efforts. In recent years, our staff and members helped
convince 14 states to adopt Clean Cars programs. Now, thanks to our
success and the president’s bold action, by 2020 we’ll reduce our oil
consumption by 1.4 million barrels per day — nearly as much as we
import today from Saudi Arabia — and dramatically reduce global warming
pollution.

Keeping our forests wild.
From
California’s Sequoia to Virginia’s George Washington, millions of acres
of our national forests are still untouched by logging, mining and
drilling, despite Bush administration efforts to open them to industry.
We helped win the original Roadless Area Conservation Rule and we’ve
fought state-by-state and here in Washington, D.C., to defend our
forests and keep them wild for generations to come.

Safer, healthier waters.
From the Chesapeake Bay to Puget Sound, we’re working to restore all of
America’s waters to health. Our staff and members have won new rules to
protect the Bay, stopped BP and others from dumping more toxic
pollution into the Great Lakes, and won dozens of new safeguards to
preserve ocean wildlife.
